A DigitalHybrid Company TOPPAN FORMS CO., LTD. (TOPPAN FORMS hereunder) was contracted for implementing “Demonstration Project on Effectiveness of Utilizing a Promotion Kit for Smart Card Common Use (The Project hereunder) in Vietnam” from Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) which technical research will start on November 2018. The selected case will be implemented as a part of the third public offering “Pilot Project for Nurturing New Industries between ASEAN and JAPAN”. It will be the first trial to standardize smart card usage in Vietnam based on FeliCa system that is widely used as transportation pass and e-Money in Japan.
In Vietnam, demands of electronic payments are expanding along with the economic development, but cash payments are still the norm. The objective of the pilot project is to actualize the potential requirements of smart card usage for businesses and users by building and providing promotion kit to promote standardization of smart card usage. The pilot project plans to implement them in restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations and other area.
Demands of electronic payment are currently expanding in Vietnam and expected to further accelerate in the future. In order to build an efficient system to support the expansion, the Project will be conducted as a part of “Pilot Project for Nurturing New Industries between ASEAN and JAPAN” to find improvements and potentially make it into a de-facto standard.

TOPPAN FORMS has been contributing to the popularization of electronic payment in Asia with its long track record of manufacturing and delivering prepaid smartcard for ETC in Vietnam, Octopus card used in Hong Kong’s public transportation, and many international brand credit cards. Based on the knowhow accumulated by its proven track record and highly secured manufacturing plant in Asian countries, the company will contribute to the development of electronic payments infrastructure in Vietnam through the Project.
Also, by building an electronic payment infrastructure that uses technology from Japan, the company intends to promote entrance of Japanese companies into Vietnam and create a market for related equipment manufacturers.
TOPPAN FORMS will aim to expand the business not only in Vietnam but also in other countries, mainly in Asian region, in accordance to their cashless trends and smart city programs.
Also the Project will be introduced in Japan Pavilion of ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) (12th ~13th November) in Singapore while having the 33rd ASEAN Summit.
